
Development and requirement
Rheinmetall introduced Lynx as a clean-sheet family intended to address modern survivability, digital architecture, payload growth, and long-term adaptability. The larger KF41 was publicly unveiled in 2018 and Hungary became the first NATO country to place the family into service, creating both an operational fleet and a national production base. 1, 2
Design and fighting role
The platform is built around a common drive module and mission-module concept with substantial commonality across variants. IFV configurations use medium-caliber turrets and can integrate antitank missiles, defensive aids, active protection, and modern sensors. The larger KF41 emphasizes internal volume and growth margin so protection and future systems can be added without immediately exhausting the chassis. 1, 2
Service and evolution
Hungarian fielding moved Lynx from demonstration to operational family, while other national programs have considered or adapted the vehicle. Rheinmetall also markets reconnaissance, air-defense, command, mortar, recovery, and direct-fire variants, showing that the family is designed from the outset to extend beyond the IFV mission. 1, 2
Archive boundaries
Only troop-carrying fighting versions are classified here as IFVs. Lynx 120, Skyranger-equipped Lynx, and other major mission variants should appear in direct-fire or air-defense categories when included, while retaining chassis-family links. 1
