Development and design

Biho was developed specifically for South Korean terrain and operational requirements. It combines twin 30 mm cannon with surveillance radar, electro-optical tracking, laser ranging, and a modified K200-family automotive base. 1, 2

Operational use

Fielding began around 1999. Later Hybrid Biho configurations added short-range surface-to-air missiles to extend reach beyond the gun envelope. 1, 2

Role and significance

The system shows South Korea’s progression from license-influenced armored carriers toward indigenous integrated air-defense vehicles tailored to the peninsula. 1, 2
